For a century, Holy Name has provided women with skilled and compassionate health care. To honor that milestone and celebrate the incredible women in our community, Holy Name is sponsoring its first-ever Women’s Health Symposium on Oct. 19 at the Sister Claire Tynan School of Nursing in Englewood Cliffs. The daylong event will feature more than 20 experts coming together to present on a variety of topics including heart disease, cancer, nutrition, and more. The opening panel will be a discussion on the top five health concerns for women.
“Women are natural caregivers, busy prioritizing everyone else’s health over their own,” says symposium chair Dr. Sharyn Lewin, Director of Gynecologic Oncology at Holy Name. “But you can’t be a good caregiver unless you are healthy and taking care of yourself.”
The event will also feature a keynote presentation from Dr. Melanie Marin, Director of the Menopause Program at Mount Sinai Health System, plus breakout sessions on pelvic health, nutrition, breast health, exercise, weight loss, and more. In addition, there will be a nature walk, meditation, and lunch.
Dr. Lewin stresses the role of education in empowering patients to take control of their health. Cardiovascular disease, for example, is the No. 1 killer of women, and women might not know that their symptoms can be different from men’s.
“Knowledge is power,” Dr. Lewin says. “You can empower yourself to have the best health care possible.”
