People who have high blood pressure that does not respond to conventional treatments have a new option to ask their doctor about: renal denervation. Holy Name physicians recently performed this simple, trailblazing procedure – New Jersey’s first – to improve a patient’s blood flow. The Paradise® Ultrasound Renal Denervation (RDN) system uses ultrasound waves to interrupt the nerves responsible for raising blood pressure. It is a minimally invasive procedure that strengthens the renal arteries, which carry blood from the heart to the kidneys and are important to blood pressure. During the procedure the physician typically does about 3 treatments per renal artery, each treatment takes 7 seconds, and this may lead to a medication-free life. Watch a short video about it here.

People with high blood pressure – about half of all adults in the U.S. – have an increased risk of heart disease, stroke, and kidney problems, so this is an exciting new treatment that could save many lives.

To learn more about ultrasound renal denervation ask your primary care physician or make an appointment with a Holy Name cardiologist.
