Holy Name Announces Honorees for Upcoming Founders Ball

Dr. David Butler, NJ State Senator Paul Sarlo Recognized for Local and Global Contributions

The Holy Name Foundation is proud to announce that David Butler, MD, and New Jersey State Senator Paul Sarlo will receive the Spirit of Healing Award during the 2023 Founders Ball. The annual gala, which celebrates leadership and action in the service of health care, is the Foundation's premier fundraising event to support the Holy Name health system's mission to provide technologically advanced, compassionate and personalized care.The 2023 Founders Ball will be held on April 1, 2023 at Pier Sixty at Chelsea Piers, New York City.

"In their own special ways, they support Holy Name's vital role as a local, national, and global leader in enhancing health."

David Butler, MD

David Butler, MD

Dr. David Butler is a physician beloved by his patients, a leader esteemed by his peers, and a humanitarian revered for his compassion and generosity. A respected OB/GYN, Dr. Butler’s career spans 50 years of providing expert care to women and delivering generations of newborns. Having joined the medical staff at Holy Name in 1973, he has cared for thousands of women, delivering as many babies. He held various leadership roles, including Director of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology for many years, and Chairman of Holy Name’s Board of Trustees. In addition, his long-standing devotion to the people of Haiti, which inspired Holy Name’s organizational mission there, helped to launch a nationwide movement to serve the impoverished citizens of Milot. Since the devastating earthquake in January 2010, Dr. Butler has routinely traveled to Haiti to save lives, improve conditions at Holy Name’s Hôpital Sacré Coeur, and bring hope to a traumatized nation.

Senator Paul A. Sarlo

With a career in public service that spans more than two decades, State Senator Paul A. Sarlo (D-36) is dedicated to advancing the quality of life for residents throughout New Jersey and has been a loyal advocate for Holy Name. His work ethic, accessibility, and desire to serve the most vulnerable, have made him an outstanding partner in the pursuit of Holy Name’s Mission. Senator Sarlo, who is also Mayor of the Borough of Wood-Ridge, is the Deputy Majority Leader and Chair of the Budget and Appropriations Committee of the New Jersey Senate, representing 12 municipalities in Bergen and Passaic counties. A licensed professional engineer, Senator Sarlo has worked at Joseph M. Sanzari, Inc. for 25 years and is currently the company’s Chief Operating Officer. During his career, Senator Sarlo has overseen $2 billion dollars in infrastructure projects related to the construction of highways, roads, bridges, and public utility systems. He was named Construction Engineer of the Year in 2018 by the New Jersey Professional Engineers in Construction organization.
