Holy Name Unveils Newly Renovated Villa Marie Claire Residential Hospice

A National Model for End-of-Life-Care, Property Boasts Modern Design and Amenities that Promote Greater Quality of Life

Villa Marie Claire Residential Hospice

Holy Name, a leading health system in New Jersey, today announced the re-opening of its newly renovated Villa Marie Claire residential hospice, located in Saddle River, New Jersey. Villa Marie Claire is the region’s leading residential hospice facility, offering a distinct patient-centered, family focused approach that serves as a national model for hospice care facilities

Villa Marie Claire patients will now receive end-of-life care in a sanctuary-like setting that combines state-of-the-art medical facilities with functional home-like living spaces, allowing patients to fully celebrate life with family and friends.

Holy Name president and CEO Mike Maron stated, “Holy Name completely reimagined the hospice and palliative care experience and how families can navigate the end-of-life stage. We are grateful to Governor Murphy, Senator Sarlo and the entire Legislature for bringing greater awareness to our effort to improve end-of-life care in New Jersey and for assisting us in creating this incredibly special place. Our community deserves comfort, dignity, and high-quality care in the final stage of life and Villa Marie Claire makes that possible.”

Studies have shown that patients in hospice care often live longer than those receiving unproductive, invasive treatments. A new study from the National Opinion Research Center at the University of Chicago (NORC) found that greater utilization of hospice during the last six months of life is associated with increased satisfaction and quality of life, while also reducing Medicare costs, resulting in $3.5 billion in savings in one year, nationally. Moreover, a recent article in The New York Times highlighted numerous studies that show nonprofit hospices provide better care to patients than for-profit centers.

The newly renovated 26-acre property features remodeled all-private patient suites, a dedicated chapel, a well-appointed library and dining room, horse stables, a swimming pool, and an outdoor pavilion for entertaining guests. There are overnight accommodations for loved ones and a playroom for children.

Villa Marie Claire utilizes an interdisciplinary care team to ensure each patient and family receives individualized attention. Skilled nurses and clinicians provide around-the-clock care, while licensed social workers offer comprehensive support services and bereavement counseling to patients and their families. Spiritual counselors and a corps of volunteers also provide assistance, ensuring that every need is met.
