Holy Name’s Omar Bellorin, MD Recognized as a Master Surgeon in Robotic, Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery

Omar Bellorin, MD, FACS, FASMBS, Director of GI Metabolic, Bariatric and Robotic Surgery at Holy Name Medical Center, has achieved dual accreditation as a Master Surgeon in Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery (MSMBS) and Robotic Surgery (MSRS), and is recognized as a Surgeon of Excellence in Robotic Surgery by the Surgical Review Corporation (SRC). SRC is a nonprofit, patient safety organization committed to healthcare excellence.

Dr. Bellorin has performed more than 1,200 robotic surgical procedures to treat a host of bariatric issues, abdominal wall hernias, gastroesophageal reflux disease, achalasia, paraesophageal hernias, gallbladder disease, spleen issues, and benign conditions of the gastrointestinal system. To achieve SRC accreditation, he was evaluated based on rigorous and proven standards set by the SRC including, surgical expertise and experience, procedure-specific outcomes, the standardization of clinical pathways, consultative services, equipment and instruments, patient education and the care delivered.

“This national recognition for robotic, metabolic and bariatric surgery differentiates Dr. Bellorin as a talented and skilled surgeon who has extensive experience in performing weight loss surgeries and consistently delivers high-quality care with excellent outcomes,” said Vasantha Kondamudi, MD, executive vice president and chief medical officer. “He is also a phenomenal educator and will be integral to providing mentorship to tomorrow’s doctors through our new Graduate Medical Education program.”

A dedicated surgeon born in Venezuela, Dr. Bellorin completed his first residency at the University Hospital of Caracas/Central University of Venezuela, his research fellowship at Cleveland Clinic Florida, followed by his second residency at NewYork-Presbyterian Queens. He completed his fellowship in advanced GI and minimally invasive surgery, including bariatric surgery, robotics, abdominal wall hernias, reflux disease, gallbladder, colon and gastric cancer, at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical College. Dr. Bellorin has been recognized with several prestigious awards and accolades for his expertise in surgery, patient experience, and teaching.

SRC is an internationally recognized patient safety organization. In partnership with key opinion leaders and industry professionals, SRC developed the Master Surgeon in Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery (MSMBS) program to identify surgeons who provide excellent metabolic and bariatric surgeries and are dedicated to continuously improving healthcare quality and patient safety.
