Holy Name Medical Center is hosting its 9th annual Walk for Mom on Saturday, June 11 in New Overpeck Park, Ridgefield Park, NJ, from 10:00 am - 2:00 pm. The Breast Cancer Awareness Walk-a-thon and Healthy Hearts Fair raises funds and awareness about the importance of early detection of breast cancer and heart disease prevention. The fair will offer activities for a day of exercise, free screenings and multicultural entertainment and food.
Participants interested in the healthy hearts screening must register in advance by calling 201-833-3336 to schedule their free blood test on Saturday, May 21, 8:00 - 11:00 am at Holy Name Medical Center, Marian Hall. Fasting is required from midnight the day before the blood test. Results will be mailed to homes prior to the health fair. On June 11, participants can bring blood test results to the health fair to discuss with Holy Name's healthcare professionals.
Funds raised from the Walk for Mom provide free mammography services and follow-up treatment, such as ultrasounds and biopsies, to a limited number of financially eligible women each year. Nearly 8,000 participants have attended this event since its inception in 2008. Free breast cancer screenings and related services have been provided to more than 800 individuals and 14 women were successfully treated.
