Holy Name Medical Center Receives Beacon Awards from the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses

Intensive Care Unit and Intermediate Care Unit Recognized for Excellence in Patient Care

January 6, 2017

Holy Name Medical Center's Intensive Care unit and Intermediate care unit received Silver Beacon Awards for Excellence from the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses. The award recognizes achievements of critical care teams in areas including professional practice, patient outcomes and work environments.

The Beacon Award for Excellence — a significant milestone on the path to exceptional patient care and healthy work environments — recognizes unit caregivers who successfully improve patient outcomes and align practices with AACN’s six Healthy Work Environment Standards. Units that achieve this three–year award meet national criteria consistent with Magnet Recognition, the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award and the National Quality Healthcare Award.

AACN President Clareen Wiencek, RN, PhD, ACNP, ACHPN, applauds the commitment of the caregivers at the Intensive Care Unit and Intermediate Care Unit of Holy Name Medical Center for working together to meet and exceed the high standards set forth by the Beacon Award for Excellence. These dedicated healthcare professionals join other members of the exceptional community of nurses who set the standard for optimal patient care.

"Being a national Beacon Award winner for outstanding critical care and a Magnet-recognized institution reflects Holy Name's commitment to maintaining excellence and continually improving the care we provide our patients," said Michael Maron, President and CEO, Holy Name Medical Center.

"Both units have an amazing team of professionals, working in collaboration to achieve the best possible outcomes for the hospital's most critically ill patients," said Sheryl Slonim, DNP, RN-BC, NEA-BC, APN-C - Executive Vice President, Patient Care Services and Chief Nursing Officer. "That strong, inter-professional partnership between our physicians and nurses leads to outstanding care."

"The Beacon Award for Excellence recognizes caregivers in stellar units whose consistent and systematic approach to evidence-based care optimizes patient outcomes. Units that receive this national recognition serve as role models to others on their journey to excellent patient and family care," she explains.

The silver-level Beacon Award for Excellence earned by the Intensive Care Unit and Intermediate Care Unit of Holy Name Medical Center signifies continuous learning and effective systems to achieve optimal patient care.
