Two Holy Name Nurses are YMCA's "TWIN" Honorees NMC Wins Corporate Award

May 13, 2010

Teaneck, NJ - Holy Name Medical Center's Donna Vaglio, CNOR, BS, MA, Director of Surgical Services/LDRP/PEDS and a resident of Secaucus; and Sheryl Ann Syby, RNC, Unit Director of Pediatrics, Sniffles Club and the Special Care Nursery, and a resident of Dumont, were each honored with the TWIN Diamond Award by the YWCA of Bergen County at the 36th annual TWIN event on April 29. They were among 28 women from 21 organizations who were recognized. Holy Name Medical Center received the Corporate Recognition Award for its outstanding support of the advancement of women in industry.

TWIN, an acronym for Tribute to Woman and Industry, is a multifaceted program that recognizes women in managerial, executive and professional roles who make significant contributions to their workplace. It also honors their sponsoring companies for establishing progressive personnel policies and providing women with opportunities for advancement.

"One of my priorities has always been to encourage both staff and my management teams to have no fear," says Ms. Vaglio. "Always ask questions and seek responses while you develop critical thinking skills and take yourself well beyond where you thought you would never venture. Accept responsibility and accountability for all of your actions-this is a quality that allows us to be successful."

"I have committed my life to children and their families," explains Ms. Syby, "and it has always been my utmost goal to improve the quality of patient care. I am proud of the work that my staff and I accomplish every day.  It is an honor to be a source of comfort to the children and parents who enter our doors."

Special Award Goes to Holy Name

Since 1979, the TWIN Alumnae Association (TAA) has presented its prestigious Corporate Recognition Award to companies that demonstrate exemplary leadership in recognizing women in the workplace and for being champions of diversity.  At the April 29th dinner, Holy Name Medical Center was selected as this year's honoree. Sheryl Slonim, RNC, M.Ed., RN, CNAA, Executive Vice President of Patient Care Services and Chief Nursing Officer at Holy Name, accepted the award on behalf of the Medical Center.
