Holy Name Medical Center Named Among "Best Places To Work In New Jersey" By NJBIZ Magazine

May 2, 2013

For the eighth consecutive year, Holy Name Medical Center has been named among the "100 Best Places to Work in New Jersey" by NJBIZ magazine. Holy Name has achieved recognition for workplace excellence in the large employer category every year since 2006. In the 2013 program, the Medical Center was ranked 16, and the only Bergen County hospital on the list.

According to NJBIZ, the survey and award program identifies and honors the best places of employment, which benefit the state's economy, its workforce and businesses. Companies from across the state enter a two-part application process that begins with an examination of workplace policies, practices, philosophy, systems and demographics, worth 25% of the total evaluation. The second part, worth 75%, consists of confidential surveys to measure the employee experience.  The combined scores determine the top companies and the final ranking.  The overall registration and survey process is managed by Best Companies Group (BCG), which analyzes the data and determines the final rankings.

When asked what Holy Name does to make it a place where people would want to work, survey respondents made the following comments: Holy Name is a "one of a kind," "compassionate," "friendly," "respectful" and "genuinely caring environment" where we provide "care and compassion for our employees and patients."  We "celebrate success" in a "family atmosphere," "listen to the employees" and ensure that the "patients come first."  We have "good camaraderie among workers" and the "teamwork is amazing." Holy Name has a "positive culture" with "open communication" where "people are the biggest assets" and "workers in all fields and levels work together." It is with a "sense of humanity" that we foster "a spirit of unity in caring for each other and patients."

April Rodgers, Vice President for Human Resources at HNMC, where about 2,500 medical, nursing, allied health and non-clinical staff are employed, said, "It's no surprise to all of us here that Holy Name is a fabulous place to work, but it sure does feel good to know that the message came across loud and clear during the NJBIZ evaluation process." She noted that Holy Name has a positive working environment that focuses its employees' efforts on quality, safety and patient satisfaction. "Our staff's enthusiasm and the pride they take in their jobs translates to outstanding care and patient satisfaction."

Ms. Rodgers explains that the Medical Center shows its employees how much they are valued not only by offering them benefits and amenities aimed at improving their quality of life, but by empowering them to use their skills, advance professionally, and to think creatively.

The Medical Center has also been acknowledged by Modern Healthcare as one of its "Best Places to Work in Healthcare" every year during the five years the magazine has conducted the program.
