Holy Name Medical Center Unveils UpToDate EMR Integration and Mobile Access Provides Physicians with Clinical Decision Support at the Point of Care and Beyond

June 3, 2014

Holy Name Medical Center (HNMC) announces that it has finalized integration of UpToDate® into WebHIS, its electronic medical record (EMR) system and deployed UpToDate Anywhere. UpToDate was developed by Wolters Kluwer Health, a leading global provider of information for healthcare professionals.  As a result, Holy Name Medical Center physicians can access trusted, evidence-based clinical information and treatment recommendations at the point of care and beyond, via WebHIS and mobile devices.

"By integrating UpToDate into WebHIS, we're pleased to offer our physicians a great way to quickly access the evidence-based information they need to answer clinical questions and support care decisions," said Michael Skvarenina, CIO and AVP of Information Systems, HNMC.

Accessing UpToDate within WebHIS is facilitated by a text search link prominently located on key screens , which takes physicians immediately to the most current and authoritative clinical information available on more than 10,000 topics in 21 medical specialties. An HL7 Infobutton further streamlines point of care decision-making by providing context-sensitive UpToDate search results directly from the patient's medication, problem, and other clinical lists with just a single mouse click.

According to Michael Skvarenina, integration of UpToDate within WebHIS is an important component of Holy Name's long-term strategic commitment to excellence in health information technology.  To further expand the reach of this clinical decision support resource, Holy Name Medical Center has also deployed UpToDate® Anywhere to give its 900+ physicians access to UpToDate via an award-winning mobile app for iOS, Android and Windows. UpToDate Anywhere also enables HNMC physicians to earn CME credit while using UpToDate to research clinical questions.

"Physicians appreciate how UpToDate Anywhere ensures they always have access to the information they need to practice evidence-based medicine. Using the mobile app, they can look up answers to their clinical questions immediately rather than having to find a computer between patients," says Deb Ross, MSN, RN, Senior Clinical Informatics Specialist at HNMC.

"Holy Name Medical Center experiences echo those at other healthcare organizations that have embedded UpToDate into the clinical workflow through EMR integration and mobile access. That is why we remain committed to working with EMR providers to embed UpToDate into their systems, so that clinicians have quick, convenient access to answers that improve patient care," said Denise Basow, MD, Vice President/General Manager, UpToDate at Wolters Kluwer Health, Clinical Solutions.
