Breast Cancer Awareness Walkathon and Musical Concert in Overpeck Park
Holy Name Medical Center's Korean Medical Program (KMP) hosted its 7th annual "Walk for Mom" on Saturday, May 10 at the new Overpeck Park in Ridgefield Park, NJ. With more than 800 participants, the event raised $156,000. The "Walk for Mom" Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign is an important gender-specific initiative to promote awareness among Korean American women about maintaining good breast health. Proceeds from the fundraising walkathon and musical concert will go toward providing free mammograms, clinical exams and follow-up care to 100 uninsured, low-income Korean-American women in the community. Over the past six years, the KMP has provided free breast cancer screenings and related services to over 650 women, and successfully detected and treated 17 cancer cases.
Attractions included free lunch and refreshments, prizes, chair massage, a photo booth, face painting and sand art for children, and take-home goody bags. Sponsorship opportunities for the 2015 Walk for Mom are available. For more information, please call the Korean Medical Program at (201)833-3399, or visit www.holyname.org/walkformom.
