Holy Name Medical Center’s Asian Health Services Hosts Mental Health Expo

>Seminar and health screening draws nearly 150 members of Chinese-American community

July 12, 2017

Holy Name Medical Center's Asian Health Services recently hosted its 7th annual mental health expo, this time geared toward the Chinese population. Mental health specialists discussed the symptoms and treatment options for depression, autism, Parkinson's disease, and Alzheimer's disease.

Nearly 150 members of the Chinese–American community attended the seminar, which was followed by one-on-one physician consultations, health screenings, and an art therapy workshop for children and adolescents.

"We are committed to keeping our communities healthy and are thrilled to see this event grow in popularity every year," said Kyung Hee Choi, vice president of Holy Name Medical Center's Asian Health Services. "Mental health has historically been viewed as a taboo topic – not just among Asian Americans, but across all patient populations. Increased attendance means we are successfully removing the stigma tied to mental health diseases and disorders and ultimately helping to raise awareness on prevention and treatment."
