Holy Name Press Releases

US News & World Report Ranks Holy Name Medical Center Among Top 10% of Hospitals in New Jersey

July 25, 2012

Holy Name Medical Center in Teaneck, New Jersey has been recognized by U.S. News & World Report in its annual "Best Hospitals 2012-13."  Holy Name's ranking places it among the top 15 percent of hospitals in the New York metro area, and the top 10 percent of hospitals in New Jersey.

US News & World Report ranked hospitals across 16 specialty areas. In 12 of those areas, rankings are based on extensive analysis of performance measures related to structure (i.e., volume, technology, other resources that define the hospital environment), process (i.e., having a system that delivers high-quality care and patient safety) and outcomes (i.e., risk-adjusted mortality). Rankings in other specialties are based on hospital reputation as determined by a physician survey.

Holy Name received "high-performing" status in eight specialties: diabetes and endocrinology, gastroenterology, geriatrics, gynecology, nephrology, neurology and neurosurgery, pulmonology and urology.

US News evaluated nearly 5,000 hospitals nationwide; including 184 hospitals in the New York metro area. Of the latter group, 101 hospitals are in New Jersey.

The hospital rankings, said U.S. News Health Rankings Editor Avery Comarow, are like a GPS-type aid to help steer patients to hospitals with strong skills in the procedures and medical conditions that present the biggest challenges. "All of these hospitals are the kinds of medical centers that should be on your list when you need the best care," said Comarow. "They are where other hospitals send the toughest cases."
