Holy Name Medical Center's Korean Medical Program to Host Annual Korean Health Festival September 27

September 22, 2014

The Korean Medical Program at Holy Name Medical Center will host its 7th Annual Health Festival on September 27 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the hospital's Marian Hall Conference Center, located at 718 Teaneck Road, Teaneck, N.J. More than 1,500 Korean-Americans are expected to be seen by about 80 physicians, who come from New Jersey, New York and Connecticut to volunteer their time and expertise.

Over the past two weeks, Holy Name's laboratory has been processing blood tests taken from 1,000 participants who came to the hospital on September 13 and 14. The blood work tested 35 markers, including those that show cholesterol levels, anemia, diabetes, liver and kidney function and hepatitis B. On September 13, many of the participants also underwent additional screenings such as thyroid sonograms, digital prostate exams, eye tests, and hemorrhoid, dental, and foot exams. Participants for the tests and screenings were uninsured and/or underinsured Korean-Americans who rely on Holy Name's Annual Health Festival for their regular medical check-up.

During the health festival on September 27, a group of internists will meet with those who had blood drawn and review the results in one-on-one consultation sessions. Individuals with abnormal results will have the opportunity to consult with Korean-American physicians in 25 specialties. Flu vaccines will be available to 500 participants, on a first-come, first-served basis.
