The Holy Name Medical Center Foundation hosted the 2014 MS Center Awards Reception at the Stony Hill Inn in Hackensack on Thursday evening, November 13. More than 200 friends, family members, benefactors, community officials, physicians and medical center staff attended the annual event, which raised $86,000 to support patient care and research at the MS Center. During the evening's tribute, Linda Webster-Cennerazzo, MS Advocate, and Ken Regan, Vice President of Regan Development Corporation, received the Lawrence R. Inserra Leadership Award.
Linda Webster-Cennerazzo has been involved with many philanthropic endeavors including the MS Center Spring Fashion Fling, the Women's Club of Franklin Lakes, and Women United in Philanthropy. Her most recent is her donation of 1.2 acres of land bequeathed by her mother, to her hometown of Mahwah. Linda and her father, George Webster, donated the land and earmarked it for use by individuals with special needs and senior housing. A two-building facility dedicated to these purposes will be built on the land in conjunction with Bergen County's United Way and the Madeline Corporation.
Ken Regan has been developing housing in the Northeast for over 20 years. His mission is to enhance the quality of life for people with disabilities and to improve communities through the development of affordable and special needs housing. As a leader in the creation of service-enriched supportive residences, Ken's firm developed New Jersey's Kershaw Commons, the East Coast's first independent, supportive rental community for people living with disabilities and partnered with a number of non-profit services providers to create more than 200 supportive apartments for people with special needs.
The evening's program began with WNBC-TV Meteorologist Chris Cimino, the 2012 Inserra Leadership Award recipient, and one the MS Center's most ardent supporters, who welcomed the evening's guests and introduced Sister Barbara Moran, CSJP, who delivered the invocation and Michael Maron, Holy Name Medical Center President & CEO.
Mr. Maron acknowledged the many dignitaries in attendance and explained that the awards reception provides an opportunity to recognize those who have exhibited patient advocacy, leadership, and commitment in the fight against multiple sclerosis. He described the unparalleled work of the MS Center, the regional leader in MS care, which, since 1985, has been providing integrated, comprehensive and personalized care to patients of all ages living with multiple sclerosis. The MS Center serves approximately 1800 patients from the greater New York metropolitan region.
Mahwah Mayor Bill Laforet and Councilwoman Lisa Digiulo presented a special Council proclamation to honoree Linda Webster-Cennerazzo, acknowledging her community service, activism, generosity and courage.
Larry Inserra presented the Lawrence R. Inserra Leadership Award to the honorees in memory of his late father, Lawrence R. Inserra, Sr. He recalled his father's positive experiences as a patient at MS Center and his family's deep commitment to the MS Center. Both honorees spoke movingly of their own interactions with physicians and staff of the MS Center and expressed their gratitude at receiving an award named for Lawrence R. Inserra, Sr., whose generosity served as a catalyst for the MS Center's growth and present status as a premiere provider of MS patient care in northern New Jersey.
All proceeds from the Awards reception go directly to patient care and research at the MS Center. To learn more about the MS Center's services, call 201-837-0727.
