Holy Name Celebrates Korean Medical Program's 7th Anniversary

March 10, 2015

Holy Name Medical Center recently celebrated the seventh anniversary of the Korean Medical Program (KMP) with dinner and an awards reception in the Medical Center's Marian Hall. The honorees recognized were Dr. Stephen Angeli for the Humanitarian Award, the Southpole Foundation for the Community Service Award, and Heather Lee for the Volunteer Service Award.

The Korean Medical Program started with just 35 Korean-American physicians, seven staff members and a handful of volunteers. It has grown to include 85 doctors and specialists and hundreds of volunteers. Annual patient visits to Holy Name and the KMP's satellite locations in Closter and Englewood Cliffs have risen 120 percent over the program's first year.

Started in 2008 to address the gaps in language and culturally appropriate health care services, the KMP now provides resources, language services, and community outreach initiatives to more than 45,000 Korean-American people annually.

More than 200 guests attended the celebratory dinner and reception, which included a sign language performance by several board members of the Global Children Foundation and songs by Daddy Cool Band, a group led by Dr. Hee Yang, Medical Director of the KMP.
