The Institute for Simulation Learning at Holy Name Medical Center will be offering a Healthcare Careers Discovery Program for high school students interested in the field of medicine. This unique opportunity for high school students will be held in the Medical Center's leading-edge Institute for Simulation Learning which houses a collection of high-fidelity patient simulators that blink, breath, and respond to students creating a realistic healthcare environment. Students will learn procedural skills on mannequins that will bleed when poked, respond to pain, and even deliver a baby. The advanced audio-visual technology at the Institute will enhance the students' experiences as they watch themselves conduct physical exams on virtual patients or participate in a job interview. Doctors, nurses, paramedics and other professionals will be on hand to share their experiences with students who are interested in pursuing a career in health care. This is an ideal opportunity for those who want to stand out as they prepare for a successful career.
Programs will be held the week of July 13-17 or July 20-24 from 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM.
The program will offer a combination of simulation and classroom learning experiences to introduce students to various clinical professions and skills. American Heart Association CPR/AED and First Aid certification will be included in the program along with the opportunity to learn vital signs assessment, injection administration and emergency response. Additionally, career development strategies will be presented, including interview skills, interpersonal communications and résumé writing.
Participants will be chosen by competitive application and receive a certificate of completion at the end of the session.
