Holy Name to Host 2017 Annual Founders Ball at New York's Cipriani Wall Street

Borg Family to be presented with the Spirit of Healing Award

Holy Name Medical Center Foundation is hosting its 2017 Annual Founders Ball honoring the Borg family, former publishers of The Record, former owners of North Jersey Media Group, and current owners and operators of real estate company Fourth Edition Inc. The event will be held on Saturday, December 2nd at Cipriani Wall Street in New York, where Malcolm, Sandra, Stephen and Jennifer Borg will accept the Spirit of Healing award in recognition of their family’s significant contributions to the Bergen County community.

The black-tie affair will be chaired by Angelica Berrie, president of The Russell Berrie Foundation, who received the Spirit of Healing Award in 2015. Steve Adubato, PhD, Emmy Award-winning anchor at Thirteen/WNET (PBS) and NJTV (PBS), will serve as Master of Ceremonies. Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band drummer and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Max Weinberg returns with his band, Max Weinberg and Friends, as the musical headliner for the third year in a row.

For four generations, the Borgs published The Record, the region’s most read and respected publication, in both a tireless and fearless fashion. As the second largest paper in the state, The Record is noted for its award-winning investigative reporting, which included breaking the story on the GWB lane closures, the toxic dumping to land near the Ramapough Native-American community, and the opioid crisis in Paterson and the suburbs. The paper was also a formidable litigator in the fight for transparency to ensure that the press and residents had access to public records and won many significant legal cases.

"It is only fitting that we honor them with the Spirit of Healing Award to recognize their dedication to the communities and families that Holy Name serves."

Through their public charity, the Foundation of Northern New Jersey Inc., the Borgs have spearheaded a number of charitable endeavors, including Action Against Hunger, which is the county’s largest one-day food drive that benefits over 40 food pantries in northern New Jersey. Following the tragic events of September 11th, the Foundation was one of the first in the world to establish a fund to help those affected by the disaster. By licensing The Record’s iconic photograph of the three firefighters raising the flag at Ground Zero, the Borgs raised millions of dollars for the 911 victims and their families. The image was even turned into a postage stamp that raised needed funds for FEMA. Additional initiatives of the Foundation include improving literacy and education.
