Three Holy Name Medical Center Finalists Selected for NJBIZ 2018 Healthcare Heroes Awards

NJBIZ, New Jersey's premiere business publication, recently honored Holy Name Medical Center by naming a physician, an educator, and a nurse as finalists for the publication's 2018 Healthcare Heroes Awards. The awards acknowledge individuals and organizations that are making a significant impact on the quality of health care in New Jersey.
"We are honored that three members of our Holy Name family have been named finalists for Healthcare Heroes Awards, recognizing their dedication to our patients, their families, and to the education of health care professionals, students, and first responders throughout our community," says Michael Maron, President and CEO of Holy Name Medical Center. "Our three finalists embody Holy Name's mission of providing high-quality patient-focused care and advancing medicine through innovation and education."
Holy Name's Healthcare Heroes finalists are:
J. Cedar Wang, MSN, RN, APN, GNP-BC, CHSE, Director of Simulation Education and Administrative Director of Professional Practice, for Education Hero of the Year.
Ms. Wang directs Holy Name's Russell Berrie Institute for Simulation Learning, an innovative, high-tech facility that operates not only as a skills lab to train health care professionals and first responders, but also integrates the teaching of behavioral care, interpersonal skills, and humanism in medicine. Since opening in 2012, the Institute has trained more than 12,000 persons in realistic encounters, including obstetric emergencies, cardiac arrest, traumas, drug overdoses, end-of-life care, and the care of patients with developmental and intellectual disabilities.
Maria B. Schiavone, MD, Gynecologic Oncologist, Patricia Lynch Cancer Center, for Innovation Hero.
Dr. Schiavone specializes in the diagnosis, treatment, and lifelong care of women with benign and cancerous gynecologic conditions, as well as related malignancies of the upper abdomen, pelvic area, and colorectal region. Her expertise encompasses complex surgical procedures; chemotherapy, including hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) for advanced ovarian cancer; innovative targeted and novel therapies; and clinical research in reducing surgical site infections and using robotic surgery for gynecologic cancers.
Susan Olson, BSN, RN, Project Manager, Nursing Service Administration, for Nurse of the Year.
After 12 years of combining staff nursing with leadership roles in nursing education, mentorship, and patient-centered projects as Coordinator of Service Excellence, Ms. Olson was promoted to her current position in 2017. Whatever the challenge - launching bedside nursing, redesigning the nursing care model, preparing for Magnet redesignation, updating all employees' uniforms, or integrating innovative programs and technology to improve geriatric care, patient safety, and holistic practice - Holy Name's leadership team knows they can turn to Ms. Olson for a seamless and successful project execution.
Healthcare Heroes Awards finalists will be recognized and the winner in each category will be announced at a breakfast at The Palace at Somerset Park on June 19.
