Dr. Jake Zarah is a board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in the arthroscopic and open treatment of disorders of the shoulder, hip, and knee. He received both a Masters in Physiology and Biophysics as well as his medical degree from Georgetown University.
Dr. Zarah’s philosophy of care is rooted in the principles he learned while at Georgetown, where the school motto is the Latin phrase cura personalis, or care of the whole person. Dr. Zarah enjoys getting to know each patient and how their specific condition affects their life so that he can help them achieve their goals, whether that’s returning to sports or performing daily activities without pain. He has found that the cura personalis principle is especially prominent in the halls of Holy Name.
Following medical school, Dr. Zarah went on to complete his orthopedic residency at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School, the busiest trauma center in the tri-state area. He subsequently completed a fellowship in arthroscopic surgery and sports medicine at the prestigious Rothman Orthopaedic Institute at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia. There he served as an assistant team physician for several professional and collegiate teams, including the Philadelphia Eagles, Philadelphia Flyers, Philadelphia Phillies, Villanova University Wildcats, and Saint Joseph's University Hawks.
He has been a contributing author to several scientific publications and has presented at multiple national meetings. Dr. Zarah has been active in the local community, serving as the football team physician for Cresskill High School and participating in athletic team coverage for several Bergen County High Schools.
Dr. Zarah is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, member of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, and member of the American Medical Association. He grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and now resides in North Jersey with his wife and three children.
