Dr. Jeffrey Portnoy is a clinical neuropsychologist specializing in the assessment and treatment of adults with cognitive and behavioral changes related to neurological and psychiatric disorders. He received his bachelor’s degree with honors from Dartmouth College, and his master’s and doctoral degrees from the Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology at Yeshiva University, where he was the recipient of the Dr. Lee and Linda Rosenbaum Award for excellence in clinical health psychology. Dr. Portnoy underwent extensive clinical training at academic medical systems across New York City, including NYU-Langone Health and Montefiore Medical Center, and completed his post-doctoral fellowship in neuropsychology at Northwell Health – Lenox Hill Hospital. He is licensed to practice in New York and New Jersey.
Dr. Portnoy is highly skilled in the assessment of patients with age-related cognitive disorders (including neurodegenerative conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease), epilepsy, stroke, multiple sclerosis, traumatic brain injury, attention-deficit hyperactivity disorders, and cognitive changes related to emotional health and wellness. He also provides tailored cognitive rehabilitation services, geared toward improving patients' functional performance rather than merely compensating for deficits, and has particular expertise in the treatment of chronic sleep disorders.
As a clinical scientist, Dr. Portnoy remains active in ongoing research, and keeps informed of the latest scientific literature to ensure that his patients receive the highest quality care. He has been featured as a health expert in popular media such as Parade Magazine, and is involved in medical education as a clinical preceptor and affiliate faculty member at the Rowan-Virtua School of Medicine.
