The Nuclear Medicine Department at Holy Name Medical Center performs more than 11,000 procedures a year and is a recognized industry leader in PET/CT imaging. Nuclear medicine specialists use safe radioactive substances to provide images of the body and treat disease. Nuclear medicine procedures often identify disease in the early stages, long before they become apparent with conventional imaging, such as CT, MRI, etc. The amount of radiation found in the average nuclear medicine procedure is comparable to a diagnostic x-ray. The Nuclear Medicine Department is accredited by the American College of Radiology (ACR) and is an educational affiliate of the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ).
