Overview

The mainstay of our practice is the evaluation and management of sports and activity related concerns, from sprained ankles to tibial stress fractures, and from tennis elbow to little leaguer's shoulder. We provide care to a wide variety of patients, from the classic "weekend warrior" to the youth athlete, from recreational walkers and gardeners to elite level athletes.

When you come for your visit, wear comfortable clothing keeping your injury in mind. Also, if you have been seen by another provider for the same issue, please bring any prior studies and reports, as these can be extremely helpful in designing your treatment plan.

If you are a new patient to the practice, please be sure to arrive a few minutes early to complete the necessary paperwork. You can also download our Patient Intake Forms here to facilitate your visit.

Concussion Management

We started managing concussions long before the state passed a law requiring that any high school athlete suspected of having a concussion should be "cleared" by a physician prior to returning to the practice field.

We utilize a combination of traditional clinical assessment along with computer based cognitive screening tools (including ImPACT and AXON testing) and computer based balance assessments when evaluating a suspected concussion. We look at diverse areas of brain function, including memory and concentration, balance and coordination, behavioral changes and somatic changes to best determine the presence or absence, and resolution, of a concussion.

We also recognize that no two concussions are exactly alike. While we follow the current best practice guidelines, we are also careful to individualize the treatment plan for each patient. Our goal is to get athletes back on the field as soon as it is safe and appropriate to do so.

We are currently working with active treatment protocols for those cases of persistent post-concussive syndrome where it is determined that these may be of benefit.

Dr Mendler is a recognized CIC provider (Certified ImPACT Consultant) for those schools and athletic programs specifically utilizing the ImPACT computer based concussion management tools.

Athletic Assessments

While the traditional medical model is one of treating the ailment once present, we are not satisfied with this as our only goal. We want to help our patients and clients reach their goals. "Faster. Higher. Stronger." - If you've got an Olympic level dream, we want to help you achieve it.

Our Athletic Performance Assessment options can be tailored to your individual needs and goals. Need a standard state approved high school sports physical? We can do that. Need a comprehensive biomechanical review to try to identify "at risk" issues before the pain begins? We can do that. Looking for a determination of your current level of fitness so you can fine tune your heart rate training zones? We can do that, too.

Whatever your level, whatever your need, we are here to help you achieve your health, wellness and fitness goals.
