Overview

Chemoembolization delivers a high dose of a chemotherapy drug directly into the liver while shutting off the arteries supplying the blood that feeds the tumor. Holy Name's specialists perform the procedure by gently guiding a catheter carrying the chemotherapy medication directly into the artery feeding the tumor. Chemoembolization is often used in combination with radiofrequency ablation and other treatments.

Benefits
  • Can stop tumors from growing or cause them to shrink.
  • May be repeated.
  • Can be combined with other treatments.
  • May help preserve liver function.
