Balance and Dizziness Program

Holy Name's physical therapists have advanced training in vestibular and balance dysfunction. They provide comprehensive evaluations of each patient and create a personalized exercise program to improve function and prevent falls. Individual physical therapy plans are devised to promote central nervous system compensation for people with inner ear deficits due to vertigo, dizziness and imbalance.

This program is designed to help patients with a variety of disorders including:

  • Vertigo
  • Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV) – dizziness
  • Head trauma
  • Stroke/CVA
  • Inner ear dysfunction
  • Imbalance
  • Double or blurry vision
  • Vestibular neuronitis
  • Meniere's syndrome
  • History of falls
Cancer Survivorship Rehabilitation

Physical therapists specially trained to help cancer patients evaluate each person before creating a personal exercise program designed to improve strength and resiliency. They use their expertise in working with patients who are recovering from surgery, chemotherapy or radiation and may be experiencing weakness, balance problems or frozen shoulder syndrome due to breast cancer treatment.

Diabetes Program

Holy Name's physical therapists evaluate patients and work in conjunction with their physicians to create a comprehensive plan targeted for people with diabetes and other health conditions. Each routine focuses on the patient's specific symptoms, strengths and weaknesses. Participants should see benefits that include:

Foot and Ankle Therapy

Pain or dysfunction in the foot and ankle can severely impact a person's quality of life. Holy Name's physical therapists have expertise in these types of injuries and conditions and work with patients to create a personal exercise program that will enable each person to achieve a maximum level of physical activity and function.

Multiple Sclerosis Rehabilitation

Highly skilled physical therapists and speech pathologists have experience working with patients with multiple sclerosis and the unique physical challenges the disease may cause. They have expertise in assessing each person's abilities and limitations and work closely with physicians and staff members at Holy Name's MS Center. Together, they create a personal exercise or therapeutic routine that helps each individual gain maximum function, mobility and access to any services that may be necessary.

Pediatric Therapy

Highly-skilled specialists provide care for children of all ages with physical, occupational and speech therapy needs. They evaluate and devise a personal therapy plan to help treat each child with conditions ranging from orthopedic needs to developmental delays. They have specific expertise in the following:

  • Swallowing therapy
  • Voice therapy
  • Articulation therapy
Spine Therapy

People with a back injury that causes pain, decreased motion, function, and strength will benefit from participating in Holy Name's Spine Therapy program. Experienced physical therapists instruct patients on proper posture and the role of body mechanics in injuries and recovery. They assess the cause and symptoms of each patient's back pain and create an individual treatment plan that helps reduce the pain by correcting movement patterns and strengthening muscles that support the spine.

Sports/Orthopedic Therapy

Holy Name's experienced physical therapists are skilled at assessing sports and orthopedic injuries for people of all ages, including pediatric patients. They design individual exercise programs for each patient that helps expand movement, relieve pain and improve function for a quicker return to sporting activities while reducing the risk of re-injury.

Stroke Rehabilitation

Patients recovering from a stroke may need several types of rehabilitation specialists. Holy Name Medical Center is designated by the state as a Primary Stroke Center and provides a comprehensive multi-disciplinary plan to recovery for each patient that encompasses physical, occupational and speech therapies.

Wheelchair and Mobility Clinic

Specially trained physical therapists meet individually with patients having mobility issues to assess their limitations and strengths. If a wheelchair or scooter is needed, the therapist will instruct the patient on proper use of the device.

Women's Health Rehabilitation Program - Pelvic Floor Rehabilitation

Untreated pelvic conditions can leave women with a host of discomfort or embarrassing and painful disorders. Holy Name's specially trained therapists meet with each patient to assess symptoms and design a natural, non-surgical treatment plan to address these conditions, often caused by pelvic organ prolapse.

  • Urinary urgency and frequency
  • Constipation
  • Sexual difficulties
  • Pressure or fullness in the pelvic area
  • Pelvic floor pain/vulvodynia – pain in the vulva
  • Pelvic floor prolapse
  • Interstitial cystitis
  • Coccyx (tailbone) or lower back pain
  • Diastisis recti (separation of abdominal muscles)
  • Pain associated with scars after C-section or episiotomy
  • Pain during or after pregnancy
