Living Lighter and Healthier

After surgery, you may find it easier to adjust your eating and exercise habits. Yet keep in mind that body shape, weight and health changes will occur gradually. Here's what you can expect after surgery.

Your Recovery

  • About 80% of the patients go home after one night stay
  • You consume a special liquid diet for one week, then move to soft food
  • You need to drink a lot of water and take supplements to get the necessary vitamins and minerals, and keep yourself hydrated
  • Eventually, you can eat solid foods

Ongoing Support

Our team of dietitians, exercise specialists, and support groups will partner with you for follow-up care, to help you with:

  • Exercise goalsy
    • Start walking as soon as you can after surgery
    • Get at least 30 minutes of daily moderate activity
    • Add activities to build strength and stamina, like running or weightlifting
  • Lifestyle changes
    • Avoid alcohol
    • Quit smoking
  • Nutrition guidelines
    • Drink enough water
    • Eat foods low in starch and sugar
    • Take prescribed mineral and vitamin supplements

If You Regain Weight

If you start gaining weight after surgery, your doctor will perform a thorough workup that includes imaging and endoscopy, and discuss if a revision procedure can help you lose additional weight.
